The winners list of the Sixth "Zijin Award · Architectural and Environmental Design Competition (2019)" in Jiangsu Province was recently announced. The work New Interpretation of Broken Bridges: Renewal Design of Abandoned Railway Bridges, which was completed by the design team of Bluestar, has won the second prize of professional group of Zijin Excellent Works Award.

The competition is themed "Livable Homes · Better Life", based on the idea that design services life. It focused on improving the livability of real life, and aimed to systematically improve the livability of cities and meet the needs of the people for a better life. The design competitions include “Architectural and Environmental Design Competition”, “Cultural Creative Design Competition” and “Public Welfare Dissemination Design Competition”. The Architectural and Environmental Design Competition attracted 1,475 works at home and abroad.

The design team of Bluestar pays much attention to the urban renewal of Lianyungang, especially the design and transformation of negative space in urban areas. The main creator of the team was attracted by the vicissitudes of the railway bridges and the sense of dislocation when he passed these bridges. Through field inspections and data searching, he tried to divide the deck space of the bridges into exhibition space, passage space and living space by using intervention design methods according to the shape of the bridges. The exhibition space provides the residents in surrounding cities with a place for memories, while the living space provides them with a place for communication and entertainment. The original appearance of the railway bridges is left as they were and the space of the railway bridges is activated. This design concept was finally approbated by expert judges.
