The “new-type steam-tube rotary drying and coal moisture control technology and equipment” independently developed by the Tianhua Institute was nominated for China Industry Award recently.
Steam rotary drying technology and equipment are the leading technology and product of Tianhua Institute, which made outstanding contributions to Sinopec’s localization projects in the 1990s.
As one of the Institute’s most important achievements in major technology and equipment R&D featured by energy saving, safety and environment-friendliness, the “new-type steam-tube rotary drying and coal moisture control technology and equipment” nominated for China Industry Award this time has realized large-scale industrial application, widest promotion, biggest market share, and lowest operation cost, being the only coal moisture control technology that has been in smooth and continuous operation for 7 years. Compared with the domestic and foreign fluidized bed coal moisture control technology, the technology of Tianhua Institute is suited to large-scale production, low in comprehensive operation cost and energy consumption, stable in continuous operation, less in dust generation, free of impact on “chemical production”, and wide in the range of suitable moisture content of raw materials. Compared with foreign steam coal moisture control equipment, it is safer with significant social benefits, having reached the world’s leading level in terms of technology.
The technology’s actual application in production shows that it saves 6kg of standard coal when producing one ton of coke. The 450t/h coal moisture control equipment used at TISCO saves 14, 200 tons of standard coal per year. If the burning of one ton of standard coal generates 2.62 tons of CO2, the equipment will reduce CO2 emission by 37, 200 tons every year. In addition, it reduces phenol and cyanide wastewater discharge by 350-380t/d, not only showing obvious energy saving and emission reduction effects but also reducing investment costs by a large margin.
The technology has been granted 42 Chinese patents, of which 18 are invention patents. It also boasts 3 American and 2 Japanese invention patents. In the field of coal moisture control, it has bridged China’s technical gap, broken foreign monopoly, saved large amounts of investment in equipment introduction and application, promoted employment, and driven local economic growth.
