(Correspondents: Zhang Ming, Lin Gang) The 20th National Annual Symposium on Specialty Gases was held in Guilin recently. It was co-hosted by Guangming Research & Design Institute of Chemical Industry (hereafter called Guangming Institute) affiliated with China Haohua Chemical (Group) Corporation and the National Information Center for Specialty Gases, and organized by Editorial Department of Low Temperature and Specialty Gases. Representatives from enterprises and experts held discussions on the status quo and prospects of technologies for specialty gases at home and abroad.

Sun Funan, one of China's experts specializing in specialty gases and Chief Engineer of Guangming Institute, presided over the opening ceremony and presented a report themed as “China’s Gases 2016”. The report summarized the development trend and technological level of China’s gases market in recent years, and summed up, analyzed and predicted developments and innovations in industrial gases, standard gases and electronic gases at home and abroad. Through academic exchanges, attendees shared experience from the R&D and production of specialty gases, technological advances, new technology application, and achievements in engineering design.

The symposium covered gases and their related fields such as instrument, apparatus, tube valve, storage-transport vessel, equipment and software development. Present at the conference were more than 300 representatives from nearly 200 units including institutes, regulators of the gases industry, foreign-funded (joint venture) enterprises, multinational corporations, and domestic gases enterprises. The annual conference included 28 academic papers covering such frontiers as research on preparation and analytical methods of China’s gases, process improvement and safe operation of gases equipment and pressure vessels, application of IT technologies in the gases industry, which are state-of-the-art achievements in China’s gases industry.
