(Correspondents: Zhang Yunzhong, Huang Ping) On May 20, Liming Research Institute of Chemical Industry launched the Science and Technology Week to show the beauty of chemical engineering by organizing various activities which attracted wide attention.
This event was organized to meet the requirements of the Department of Basic Research, Ministry of Science and Technology and Henan Provincial Department of Science and Technology. during the event, the Institute opened the RIM Engineering Technology Research Center, the CNAS-accredited lab, the polyurethane elastomer engineering lab of Henan, and the exhibition hall of Liming Research Institute to the public.
A total of over 80 visitors, including staff family, primary students and their parents signed up for or were invited to the event. Under the guidance of the organizer, they visited the exhibition hall, analytical and testing instruments and equipment, the polyurethane product workshop and the elastomer lab in groups. At the exhibition hall, they were given a detailed account of the development history of the Institute in the past half a century, the S&T progress it made, its idea about S&T innovation in the future and the close ties between chemicals and our life. They also observed and experienced the environment and work procedures of analysis & testing, the production workshop and the lab, and learnt about the role of chemical analysis in ensuring food safety and the main raw materials, production equipment and production process of polyurethane materials.
Chemical engineering experiments such as “The Fading Character”, “The Magical Sound-Changing Air”, “The Swelling Liquid” and “The Fast-Curing Ultraviolet Light” designed by the Institute staff were especially popular among the visitors and showed them that chemical engineering was everywhere in our life and we couldn't live without it.
The exhibition aroused great interest in visitors who asked a lot of questions and participated in the chemical engineering experiments. They said that through the event, they learnt more about the scientific & technological development and corporate culture of the Institute and about the beauty of chemical engineering. Our staff families also gained more knowledge about and became more interested in chemical engineering, thus more supportive for chemical engineering research and work. Primary students became more curious about chemical engineering and were inspired to study harder and better apply S&T to improve people’s life.
The third week of May is designated by the State Council as the National Science & Technology Week, and this year it’s themed on “Innovation, Sharing and Development.” Actively performing its social responsibility, Liming Research Institute carefully designed this event, opened high-quality chemical R&D resources, organized science popularization activities and guided the public to know more about chemical engineering and arouse their interest in it.
