Inner Mongolia Qinghua Group’s coking wastewater deep processing project, one of the biggest in China, undertaken by Bluestar’s Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Development Center, recently finished construction. The project sits in the Alxa Economic Development Zone, Inner Mongolia, and is able to treat 500 cubic meters an hour.
Coking wastewater contains complex content, filled with noxious, high-chromaticity, and highly concentrated organic industrial wastewater that is hardly biodegradable. The traditional treating methods require complicate processes and a big investment, with undesirable results. Therefore, the water center developed an advanced treatment process to overcome previous problems. The treated water has met the requirements of industrial water use. Some of the water has been used for quenching, while the rest is fully recycled. The new process not only realizes zero discharge but also raises the wastewater utilization rate to 80 percent. In this way, 9,600 tons of coking wastewater can be reused on a daily basis, saving more than 10,000 yuan ($1,629) per day with good environmental and economic benefits.
