One new Qingdao Yellowsea Rubber Co employee took it upon himself to help a child suffering from leukemia, by donating stem cells for the child’s treatment.

Sun Youqiang, who joined the company just last May, read a piece of news online, last February, about a child with leukemia who desperately needed a blood match and the child’s expression moved him. So, Sun sent a blood sample to apply as a donor, which would make him only the 46th stem cell donor who was not related to the patient, in the city of Qingdao. In October, a Shenzhen lab informed him that it was a successful match for a leukemia patient.

So, just before he left to make the donation, there was a seeing-off ceremony in Qingdao, where Sun was praised by the city’s Red Cross Society and the Chengyang district, with leaders from the Jihongtan Street Office, and staff of Yellowsea Rubber on hand, as well as news reporters. Su Haiyin, the deputy-director of the local Red Cross Society, praised Sun for the nobility of his act and said they were grateful that the company has such an excellent worker.

Luo Yongren, an executive VP of Yellowsea Rubber, said Sun was the company’s first such stem cell donor, but that the company has a long tradition of selfless devotion to the nation, promoting human values and virtue among its people, and that the staff have a noble quality in devoting themselves and being models of morality, something that everyone needs to learn.

Luo added that the honor was not just Sun’s alone but the entire company’s as well. It’s only a few months since he began working for the Yellowsea Rubber, but Sun Youqiang is already a maintenance monitor of a section at the steel plant and he works hard and has solved many production line equipment problems and has outstanding welding and lathe skills.
