Liu Yandong, a state councilor and member of the CPC Central Committee Politburo, got a close look at some high-new-tech industries and leading enterprises when he visited the city of Xianyang’s high-tech zone, in Shaanxi province, on July 12, 2012. The head of one of the companies, Yue Guiqiang, of the Northwest Rubber & Plastics Institute, gave a description of their rubber products and answered Liu’s questions, while they were visiting the company’s exhibition hall.
Top-end rubber products are a major industry in Xianyang, and the Northwest Institute is the only institute in the high-tech zone, where it is involved in several key national research tasks. Some of its more successful work has filled a domestic gap and broken a foreign monopoly on the particular products, as well as giving the company a good reputation in China’s rubber seal industry.
