The Southwest Research & Design Institute of Chemical Industry (SWRDICI) recently was selected as one of China's 81 pilot innovation-oriented enterprises by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and the All China Federation of Trade Unions.

To qualify, enterprises must have key technology, proprietary intellectual property rights, continuous innovative capability, self-owned brand, and the ability to take the lead in the industry.

Once chosen, these enterprises will receive the support of the National Science and Technology Programs, and gain access to priorities in the innovative platform construction, skilled personnel and commercialization of scientific findings.

Over the past few years, SWRDICI has undertaken nearly 20 national scientific projects in the Eleventh Five Year Plan, such as the "Key Technologies Development in Preparing Bulk Chemicals Through Non-petroleum Routes", and all of them were completed on schedule and passed experts' acceptance checks. The first batch of the State Key Laboratory of Business—"Comprehensive Utilization of Industrial Gas Emissions" supported by the institute accomplished various tasks within the construction period.

The institute has discovered and cultivated more than 40 doctors, masters and undergraduates, and declared more than 20 patents every year. It now possesses more than 100 patents, and the conversion rate exceeds 80%.

Being selected as a national innovation-oriented enterprise will bring more opportunities and room for development to the institute, prompting it to forge ahead in a more healthy and scientific way.
