The Jiangxi Spark Organic Silicon plant sees enterprise culture as the soul of an enterprise, and it has been using its enterprise culture achievements of 2009 to support Bluestar Culture Advocacy activities through 2010 and onward, under the theme “Love Bluestar and dedicate yourself to Spark”.
The education centers of this “Love Bluestar and Spark” campaign are the Spark Plant History Museum, the Former Reworking Site, and Bluestar Culture Park. The new SHE Room sounds an alarm and at the same time helps visitors understand the SHE management concept. It has also enriched management and operations by showing SHE regulations, as well as fire equipment, accidents, major factory hazards, and emergency evacuation methods.
The flag-raising and anthem activity held every Monday is an important patriotic activity, but it is also an eye-catching example of enterprise culture. The French flag-raising activity was also conducted for BSI experts on French National Day.
The song “We’re proud to be Spark staff members” reflects Spark’s history over the past 40 years, especially the 14 years after it merged with the parent company. And, it shows staff members’ spirit and their ambition to build the enterprise into a silicon showcase for the world. It is very popular in the plant.
Spark has various cultural and entertainment activities for team building, such as the joyful lantern festival, Women’s Day entertainment activities, the Safe Month theme party, Mid-autumn karaoke contest, Water Splashing Festival, and New Year’s bonfire party. These provide an unforgettable experience for French BSI experts, foreign friends, staff members, and their families.
Other activities include: the 32nd amateur sports meet, with almost 2,000 people taking part; the 21st Grain Rain Poetry Reading; the Harmonious Family activity, which was very exciting for BSI experts; the 2nd group of “30 excellent staff members” who visited the Shanghai Expo, giving them a broader outlook and a stronger sense of responsibility; and the 80 children of Spark staff members who took part in the 21st Spark Summer Camp and felt the warmth of the big Bluestar family.
Then, the physical examinations for all staff members and retirees gave them a feeling of guaranteed health care. In 2010, the Workers’ Union gave 86,000 yuan to staff members who were experiencing financial difficulties or had a serious illness. This enhanced the sense of responsibility and pride of staff members and their families.
The plant places great importance on promoting its image and boosting morale. It has published more articles in “Morning Information for the Chemical Industry” and “Youth Times” than any of the other enterprises and offices of ChemChina. Other ways to convey instructions from superiors, information about the enterprise, and describe the good deeds of staff are the internal TV station, exhibitions, and the interior OA system. Staff members can make suggestions or a report to the head of the plant or any departments, anytime. Currently the OA system provides a sort-of bridge connecting the administration and staff members, and a way for the staff to become familiar with goings-on in the plant.
The Spark plant is devoted to increasing the well being of its employees and has completed 10 tasks for staff members in a three-year period. It also fulfilled its promises for 2010 two months ahead of schedule. For instance, the building and landscaping of a “Spark Flower Garden” and a residential quarter are near completion.
More than 2,000 staff members and retirees have finished their paper work on this, and more than 1,000 households are doing some interior decoration. Some families moved into their new houses around the Spring Festival and their children can attend school in the new Yongxiu zone.
This solidarity has meant rapid development of the enterprise. In 2010, it broke five records in annual production, yields, product quality, sales, and exports, further strengthening its position at the top of the domestic organic silicon industry. Revenues have increased 12 percent over last year, and profits have increased 59-fold.
