Ren Jianxin, general manager of ChemChina, paid a visit to the Toray Bluestar Membrane Technology (Beijing) Co, Ltd (Toray) in the Shunyi Airport Development Zone, along with the management team, on May 30. Ren had a look at Toray’s reverse osmosis workshops where he was briefed on the company’s business situation and development plans.
Ren commented on Toray’s achievements and the leadership of the two management teams, saying, “The lean management of Japanese companies is a model of excellence for the entire world. I’ve been to Japan many times and have great respect for such companies as Toray. I’ve expressed concern to our Japanese partners and friends after the devastating earthquake and radiation leaks and today’s visit makes me feel just as if I were back in Japan. I am really impressed by the spirit of the Toray staff and the site management, as the full embodiment of this enterprise culture and their excellence and meticulousness. I’m very happy that you’ve had such achievements in such a short time and I really agree with your corporate policy of ‘striving to be China’s top membrane company while contributing to solving the water shortage problem’.
“This slogan is the embodiment of our strategic direction and social responsibility. China’s huge water treatment and desalination market will definitely bring tremendous opportunities for Toray’s development and I believe that the market goals will definitely be reached.”
Ren also answered some questions about Bluestar and ChemChina’s support and said that there would be special discussions about their plans after the meeting, with Mr. Sakakibara, president of Toray.
Toray is a joint venture set up by Bluestar and Toray in 2008 whose purpose is to develop water resource recycling and desalination using Toray’s membrane production strengths and Bluestar’s strengths in water treatment. In the period of a year, Toray has become the biggest reverse osmosis membrane plant in China with an annual production capacity of 130,000 reverse osmosis components.
