China National Bluestar (Group) Co Ltd is leading in the new chemical materials and specialty chemicals sector.

It has 45 factories and 17-research institutes in 150 countries and regions. Its sales revenues in 2010 stood at over 45 billion yuan ($7.14 bilion).

Sustainable talent remain an indispensable element of corporate development. It is committed to provide employees with a good working environment and development prospects that focus on a balance between work and family life.

The company funded the Bluestar Summer Camp for the children of employees for the past 22 years, which employs a caring staff for youth education and cultural construction of the company.

Its original purpose is to educate the children of employees during the summer break.

The company launched operations in the ancient city of Lanzhou in northwest China in September 1984. Ren, the then secretary of the Communist Youth League of the Chemical Machinery Institute, later assumed the post of general manager of the company.

With only six Youth League members, one part-time accountant and a loan of 10,000 yuan($1,590), the former Bluestar was started.

Many employees' children were at school while their parents were working in different cities. Accordingly, Ren initiated the first Bluestar Summer Camp.

Eleven campers could enjoy 7-days of learning, sports training, along with field trips to Lanzhou and Gannan Prairie.

After the first summer camp, it was extended from seven days to 20 days with more activities. Children were taught how to exercise their collective spirits and independent living skills.

They studied extra-curricular knowledge and did more physical exercises. Children have developed good study and living habits as well as a variety of healthy interests for arts and sports.

22 camps have already been held, which has been extended to its subsidiaries and headquarters. The camp changed its name to Bluestar International Summer Camp, themed "Bluestar – our shared home".

Over 1,100 children from 12 countries participated in 19 Chinese cities, including 53 foreign campers from 11 countries such as France, Norway, Britain, and Australia in 2011.

BlueStar Group has invested more than 70 million yuan ($ 11.11million) in summer camp activities in the past 22 years.

They hired the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Basic Teaching and Research Department to design programs and cooperate with primary and secondary schools in Beijing.

They hired outstanding teachers for the summer camps, as well as an academic advisor, college students as assistants to the advisor and doctors.

Taking "Motherland, Bluestar, Individual" as its cutting point each year, the camp designs juvenile growth-related activities. The main line is "verbal communications, visiting practices and hands-on cooperation."

Activities foster talents and boost its corporate culture.

The camp has also played a significant role in promoting legacies, and combining Chinese and foreign culture.

The founding of the camp upholds a people-oriented spirit supported by Ren. He advocates that, "people (should) rely on each other to survive."

The children represent a new corporate image for the company.

Since 1997, the camp had been cultivating corporate successors.

The camp established a scientific quality education program.

The camp promotes education and a home for harmonious and prosperous relationships.

Many parents disclosed that their children have matured much. They now wash their clothes, communicate more with their parents and showed greater care for others.

Children of overseas and domestic employees had been invited to join the camps since 2009. Hence, overseas employees feel they are an equal part of the Bluestar family.

The program helps children form deep friendships and a better understanding of different cultures.

Bluestar believes that socially responsible employees, businesses and society could achieve sustainable and symbiotic development by starting with children.
