At the Work Conference on Social Responsibility of Central Enterprises held by SASAC on 11 November 2011, “BlueStar Summer Camp: shaping a responsibility brand for 22 years” was announced “Outstanding Social Responsibility Practice of Central Enterprises 2011”.
BlueStar Summer Camp was originated by China National BlueStar (Group) Co, Ltd. By then, the children of many employees were of school-age since many employees were required to spend a lot of time on business trips by the industrial cleaning business of BlueStar, which had proliferated around the country, they became less available to their children during their summer vacation, the Summer Camp was born. Ren Jianxin, who was the general manager of BlueStar, advocated and personally presided over the planning of the First BlueStar Summer Camp in 1990. Initially, there were 11 campers, all of whom were children of BlueStar employees. The main activities included a visit to Lanzhou and Gannan Grassland for a week. Hence the tradition of BlueStar Summer Camp began.
Since then, BlueStar Summer Camp developed gradually from within the province to throughout China and even to the world. This year, more than 1,100 campers from 12 countries participated in the Summer Camp in 19 cities throughout China. It also has extended from 7 days to 20 days and activities were continuously enriched. During the camp, the campers developed and exercised their independent living skills, enriched their extra-curricular knowledge, strengthened their bodies, and developed good study habits and team spirit.
Today, BlueStar Summer Camp has become a systematic social responsibility project with specialized organizational security, sustained financial support, professional participation and theme-oriented operations. With gradual professionalization of its form of organization, BlueStar Summer Camp has begun to invite Beijing Municipal Education Commission Basic Laboratory to make special activity programs, and has also established cooperation with excellent primary and secondary schools by inviting excellent teachers as summer camp instructors. The Camp has also invited college students from normal colleges as assistant instructors and doctors from professional hospitals as summer camp physicians. BlueStar Summer Camp has accumulatively invested more than 70 million yuan by now.
BlueStar Summer Camp is China’s only summer camp held by an enterprise for children of its employees. As a brand, it enjoys a good reputation and has played an important role in promoting the corporate culture, the inter-generational transmission and integration of Chinese and Western cultures.
