The Shenyang Chemical Industry Co Ltd has been encouraging staff members to get involved in its production, operational, and management processes to help it develop better. For this purpose, it takes employee (representative) proposals seriously, which reflects the guiding principle of democratic management and harmonious corporate development.
In recently years, immediately after the workers congress, which is held at the beginning of each year, Shenyang Chemical has asked employee representatives to hold discussions where they can offer suggestions on corporate development and improvements. This year, for the first time, representatives were also encouraged to share their ideas on enterprise management, resulting in a number of quite pragmatic proposals, especially in view of the tough market situation, on production safety and improved costs.
One example came from a representative from the PVC branch who suggested that a tandem-center valve in the hot-water system for paste resin production could be changed to guarantee continued operation if there is a failure in the production system.
Another representative from the supply department suggested ways to improve the information platform of the ERP system to better control frequent purchases and reduce procurement costs. This involved real time monitoring in purchasing, warehousing, delivery, and payments in his department, as well as in the metrology, finance, and production departments.
A representative from the sales and human resources department suggested sorting out the old materials in storage, thereby saving a lot of manpower and money.
A finance department representative made the useful suggestion for assessments of performance indicators in technical innovation projects, which could save money and encourage continued innovations in all departments.
All of these suggestions will allow the company to improve its production, marketing and management performance in the end.
In trying to apply the better employee representative proposals as quickly as possible, Shenyang Chemical’s leaders are told never to avoid any problems they encounter and to weigh each proposal to better see the needs in the next step of the work process. In the near future, for better application of suggestions, they will be forwarded to related departments and branches and, for those that need further study, meetings will be held to discuss implementation. In the case of proposals that are not imediately useful but could be in the long run, they will be retained, studied, and implemented when the time comes.
Shenyang Chemical’s labor union will report to the employee representatives on the adopted proposals and the outcome of their application in the shortest time possible, allowing the relevant representative to check the results.
