In response to the Covid-19 health emergency, Pirelli immediately implemented all preventative actions to safeguard the health of its employees and the wider community. Pirelli created a task force that is in constant contact with the various institutional crisis units in all the countries where the company is present. The HSE function is coordinating the implementation of actions at the global level and, in addition, has created an emergency hotline for employees that is staffed 24/7 by doctors, security specialists and HSE.
Pirelli has also promoted a number of initiatives to support the wider community. In cooperation with Lombardy’s regional government, it provided support for the healthcare emergency by donating 65 ventilators for intensive care therapy, 5,000 protective suits for healthcare workers and 20,000 face masks. The medical equipment - which will help the regional government support its hospitals - was donated by Pirelli with the cooperation of China Construction Bank. The material arrived at Milan’s Malpensa airport on March 23 thanks to the joint efforts, alongside the company and its Chinese partners, of the regional government itself, coordinated by the councilor Davide Carlo Caprini, and the Italian Ambassador in Beijing, Luca Ferrari.
In China, it had a donation to the 'Coronavirus Relief Efforts' to the sending of healthcare equipment. There was a contribution to research against the coronavirus drawn from the Pirelli Calendar project, following the cancellation of the 2021 edition. In the context of other initiatives already undertaken by the company, “The Cal” project will donate 100,000 euro to the fight against and research into Coronavirus. Pirelli is constantly in contact with all its stakeholders (including suppliers, clients and the distribution network) with the aim of limiting the impact of the crisis and to better plan the recovery.
