On June 10, 14 towns in Tongwei Country, Dingxi City, Gansu Province, were hit heavily by a hail storm, affecting 120,000 people and over 29,000 hectares of farmland, more than 85,000 hectares of which suffered from total crop failure. Upon knowing this, Andrew Guthrie, Syngenta’s President for Greater China, immediately expressed, on behalf of the company, concerns for the poverty-stricken people and the intention to support disaster relief to the local government.

To support the disaster relief in Tongwei County, reduce the loss of the local people as much as possible, and restore product at the earliest time possible, Syngenta decided to donate two tons of high-quality oil sunflower seeds that can be sowed immediately. All the seeds have been sent to the disaster-stricken area. The CPC Dingxi Municipal Committee and the Dingxi Municipal People’s Government thanked Syngenta for its active and timely support for disaster relief and promised to distribute the seeds to farmers as soon as possible.

We are confident that under the leadership and coordination of the local government, people in the disaster-hit area will overcome all difficulties and restore production soon. Syngenta will continue to pay close attention to the progress of the disaster relief work and offer help within its power.
