Recently the Qenos facility in Altona has entertained a special group of visitors – citizens from Melbourne who have signed up for the Open Day program. Qenos, Australia’s only polyethylene producer, has always maintained good partnership with the Altona community. As the major sponsor of this year’s Art & Industry Festival, Qenos opened its local facility to citizens in Melbourne, leading them through an interesting, memorable journey to the world of chemistry.
At the facility, visitors were first briefed on the history of Bluestar and Qenos, in particular, their efforts made and achievements attained in safety, health enhancement and environmental protection. Qenos, with its vast array of products, is an indispensable player in areas of food packaging, construction, mining, energy, agriculture and water conservation in Australia. The marketing department showcased products such as tubes, films and food packaging products so that visitors could know better about what the company was doing.
Then visitors were then taken to the technology center. They watched the operation of chemical equipment such as the film extruder and the new-type blowing machine, learnt how the milk bottle they used every day was made, and were each given a mini milk bottle as a souvenir.
This year’s Art & Industry Festival celebrated the theme “Industrial Fashion”. Inspired by industrial products, young artists brought many refreshing original designs to the audience. The most creative fashion designers even drew inspiration from Qenos’ milk bottle and designed a line of clothes, showing the possibilities for the marriage between industry and fashion.
By sponsoring the festival, Qenos hopes to spread the basic knowledge about the chemical industry, bring the general public closer to the chemical industry and show them that “Life needs chemicals”.
